Despite renewed media attention and various tips, the case is still unsolved. It is not posted whether the strangulation was manual or with an object. In December 1987, Ivy Batten (85) was bludgeoned to death in her isolated cottage at Shute Bottom near Colyford in Devon. The DNA has not yet been tied to a specific person but police stated that this John Doe will be charged with 18 counts, including three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of sexual assault, first-degree assault and two counts of sexual assault on a child and burglary.
The attack was so violent that the kitchen knife broke off in her back.
The estimated time of her death was before dusk on March 28, 1979.
She was not robbed of any possessions nor was she sexually molested. Her body was found Nov 1, 1974, in a field off Bury Green Lane, which leads to Bury Green, almost 35 miles away from her home. Josephine’s body was fully clothed and she was lying face down.
The authorities have Kristy’s dental records on file and check with each new Jane Doe case. Moira “Holly” Branagan (1962 – 1979) was found stabbed 18 times in the back with a 10-inch kitchen knife.
The autopsy showed she had 15 serious knife wounds, three less serious wounds, and two defensive wounds on her hands.
The file, though dusty, is still classed as open by Merseyside Police.
